Thank You. We Reached our Food Literacy Month Goal
Your generosity is helping to grow the next generation of healthy eaters!

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to you, we’ve surpassed our fundraising goal for Food Literacy Month. Together we raised $85,084.92 with $35K in matching gifts from our sponsors!

Food Literacy Month kicked off with our beloved Veggie of the Year competition, where five notable local chefs were randomly assigned a vegetable and tasked with creating a mouthwatering dish that could impress the toughest judges of all—our Food Literacy Center students. This year, our amazing chefs and their veggies were:

  • Chef Ravin Patel from The 7th Street Standard, Team Okra
  • Chef Yekaterina Balagian from The Dolce Diva, Team Tomatillo
  • Chef Takumi Abe from Kodaiko Ramen & Bar, Team Eggplant
  • Chef Yolanda Marculescu from SCUSD Central Kitchen, Team Cucumber
  • Chef Dennis Sydnor The Bawk and the Roost, Team Potato

Team Potato won our Veggie of the Year competition with their recipe for Potato Pierogi with BBQ Potato Chips, using potatoes as a featured ingredient. The win came with a heartwarming twist: Chef Aidan is also a former food literacy student!

But that’s not all! Our five veggie teams didn’t just compete for student votes—they also helped us bring food literacy education to our students by rallying donations for their teams to win the People’s Choice Award.

This year, Team Okra took home the People’s Choice Award, raising an impressive $10,565 for food literacy education! Thank you for supporting our students this Food Literacy Month. Your generosity is helping to grow the next generation of healthy eaters and veggie champions!

A Special Thank You to Our Food Literacy Month Sponsors!
